ただいまニューヨークは午後８時、気温は３２℃。みなさんいかがお過ごしでしょうか。

夏休み始まったばかりの今週は特に仕事の予定を入れないようにしているのですが、今日は日本でいう真夏日。歩くだけで顔に当たる日差しがまぶしく、ああ再び夏到来だなあと感じる天気です。

今日はハーバード時代の友達と４人でランチを食べたあと、学校近くのバーSalumeria Rosiに行ってテーブルでお酒をのみながらくつろいでいました。すると、ウェイターの方が

「すみません、大変申し訳ないのですが、このテーブルが必要なお客様がお待ちですので、カウンターにうつっていただけますか？みなさんにお酒一杯ずつサービスします。」

と言うのです。なんというサプライズ！ということで皆でうれしくて顔を見合わせながら、夏休みの始まりを祝いつつもう１ラウンド楽しんで帰ってきたのでした。

他の都市に比べると冷たい人が多いといわれるNYですが、お店の方々はみんな丁寧で、ミニサプライズにとてもハッピーになったひとときでした。雰囲気もすてきなイタリアンバーでした。

素敵な夏休みのキックオフになりました！

It’s 8pm in New York, and the temperature is 88°F – I just talked to my friend in Michigan and he said it was the same temperature there too. Hope everyone in the States enjoyed the great weather!

After getting lunch today, I went to a bar near school with my good friends from Harvard; it was the perfect weather for a glass of cold prosecco even at 4:30pm. We four sat at a table and updated each other about a lot of things – and opened up our glasses quickly.

Suddenly the waiter came to our table and said, “how about we offer you another round of free drinks and ask you to move to the counter?”

Oh, what a happy surprise! Does she know that the summer break has just started? Is she celebrating the beginning of the break with us?

The prosecco was amazing, their salami looked amazing (well, I am a pescatarian so the cover photo today is from my friend’s salami, but it looks good, doesn’t it?), and their service was 5/5. And a hang with old friends are always amazing. If the weather is also good, what else could I ask for?
