みなさんお元気でしょうか。早いもので学校が始まって３週目。修士２年目、楽しんでます！

すこし崩してしまった体調も完全によくなり、授業にオケのリハーサルに久々の友達との会話に、充実の毎日です。

今週末の土曜日（９月２３日１９：３０ー）には今学期初のオーケストラのコンサートがあるので、朝練に夜練（オーケストラのリハは、朝の場合は９：３０から、夜の場合は２２時までという過酷スケジュールなのです…）にがんばってます。

土曜のコンサートでは第2バイオリンの首席を弾くのですが、メインの曲がシュトラウス作曲「ばらの騎士」という超ドラマチックなオペラの組曲で、一番盛り上がるところが最高に素敵なので弾いていて毎回泣きそうになります。特にステージ上で８０人ほどのフルオーケストラ全員でクライマックスを演奏する瞬間は、かなりの迫力があります。。！

今回のゲスト指揮者は細かいところにかなり厳しいのですが、その分とってもためになるので生徒にも人気な先生です。

After struggling from sickness, I’ve already survived two weeks of classes by now – it’s surprising how time flies so quickly. Last week was a full of “Hey, long time no see! How was your summer?” but now everyone is like “I’m so sleepy, I have orchestra in the morning and two classes and then another rehearsal…” Well yes, I’m one of them who is already in an orchestra cycle and waking up early every day.

But I’m glad I’m back at school and see so many friends here in NYC! Especially this year, there are many friends from college who are working/studying in the city and it’s amazing to catch up with them too. I’m also super excited to work with my string quartet, the Ansonia Quartet, as a part of Honors Chamber Music Program.

I am realizing that the second year (especially fall term because you don’t have to worry about post-grad stuff…) is much easier to handle, now that you’ve been in school for a year and know what the deals are. Talking to other 2nd year masters students, I think everyone is managing their time more efficiently than last year.

My first concert of this semester at Juilliard will be the Juilliard Orchestra Concert this Saturday, September 23rd. I am serving as a principal second and I would love to see your faces there if you live in NYC! Der Rosenkavalier by Strauss is my favorite piece of the program and it makes me want to cry at the climax of the piece.
